Teaching Statement
My teaching philosophy centers on creating a love of learning that not only makes music a part of student’s lives but allows for them to develop confidence and skills that will be incorporated into life beyond music. I emphasize a strong technical foundation and attention to detail along with creativity and musical expression.

Bio
Sophia Lingar is a native of New Hampshire. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in philosophy from Thomas College in Maine, and a Master of Arts in International Humanitarian Action from Uppsala University in Sweden.
As the daughter of a pianist, music and dance filled Sophia’s life from a very young age. She participated in National Piano Guild Auditions through high school, achieving the Paderewski Gold Medal for her efforts. Additionally, she performed in the MVPTA Honors’ Recital, taught ballet and contemporary at multiple dance studios, and choreographed for the Youth America Grand Prix.
Sophia’s qualifications for the registrar position stem from her administration of her childhood piano studio, her undergraduate internships, and her graduate school fellowship with the American Red Cross, where she continues to volunteer her time assisting with youth and young adult programming.
After receiving her degrees, Sophia continued to advance her playing skills, became a teaching member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers and the Merrimack Valley Piano Teachers’ Association, and began to teach at a piano studio in Concord, NH. She is looking forward to both the performing and teaching opportunities available at MCMS!
