Tanya Shrago performs in Texas
Piano instructor Tanya Shrago had the opportunity to perform in Texas this summer with her former student from Russia. Here she shares her experience:
My former student from St.Petersburg, Maria Khavin, now professional pianist and teacher in Seattle, invited me to join her in this wonderful musical event.
The 34th International Academy & Festival took place in Fort Worth, Texas. This year Piano Texas was bringing attention to the musical genius of Mozart. The uniqueness of the Academy lies in its three concurrent programs: Young Artists, Teachers and Amateurs. The level of Guest Artists was incredibly high. We both were in the Teachers program. Maria won a concerto competition and had the honor to play with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra concerto by Mozart No.17 under baton of maestro Geoffrey Simon. My concert program was music by my favorite composer George Gershwin. I played his Three Preludes and Four Songs in his piano arrangement.
And what else was very exiting: we played together – teacher and student – pieces for four hands by Russian composer Valeri Gavrilin We both got a lot of compliments. This event gave us an inspiration for working even harder ourselves and with our students.
