Susan Wilkes, Music Education, Body Mapping, Outreach

Teaching Statement:

As a music educator for more than 3 decades in Vermont and NH, Susan Wilkes brings insights about the ways that students of all ages can learn and embody ALL STYLES of music with energy, focus and physical freedom.

Education:

She earned a BA in Music Education and teaching certificate in Special Education from Westfield State College, and Master of Music degree in Conducting at U.Mass Lowell.

While teaching music at West HS in Manchester, she worked toward completing a Masters in Health Arts and Sciences at Goddard College.

Susan is a licensed practitioner in Bodymap, and flautist in the Music for Therapeutic Healing and Transition Program (MHTP.org), playing for patients in healthcare settings in three NH locations. She is also a certified health coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.

Susan’s continuing endeavors include the integration of yoga and other somatic practices for children through the ChildLight Yoga Program as part of a holistic approach to music education. Singing in the Manchester Choral Society further compliments her singing and movement awareness.
