The Summer String Class is open to students studying Books 1 through 4 (Suzuki Method) or music of equivalent difficulty. Each week from 4 – 6 pm, students will participate in small classes learning music theory, ensemble playing, and ending with a music history lesson. Students should bring a bag dinner or snack to enjoy during the Music History lesson. Ability level: Suzuki Books 1 through 4 or equivalent.

Calling all violists! Here’s a chance for violists to really have fun with their instrument and build chamber music skills! Ensemble playing is a great way to strengthen your overall musicianship! Working in a small group, players will strengthen individual playing skills, listening skills, rhythm and technique specific to the viola. Work with other violists and develop musical friendships along with learning a wide range of music written for viola ensembles of all sizes! There are viola only, duets, trios, quartets, and even bigger, so we can accommodate any number.

Piano to Percussion Class
This is a course designed for piano students who are interested in gaining the skills necessary to transfer into a large ensemble (orchestra or band) as a percussionist. Students taking the course are expected to have basic music literacy skills in both treble and bass clef. The course will focus on development of instrumental techniques necessary to successful join a percussion section. This will include, but is not limited to, percussion keyboards (xylophone, glockenspiel, marimba, vibraphone), concert snare drum, bass drum, timpani, crash cymbals, tambourine, and triangle.

This is a course designed for students who will be playing on high school drumlines. Students will focus on exercises and technique building on the various rudimental instruments as well as basic marching techniques specific to percussionists. The four drumline instruments will be the focus (snare drum, tenors/quads/quints, bass drums, cymbals). Students enrolling in this course should be prepared to supply their own instrument for the duration of the session.

Instruments are introduced throughout the 4-week session with the opportunity for students to explore instruments hands on.
