Teaching Statement

Ms. Towner loves to share her passion for singing with students of all ages and abilities. She recognizes that singing is personal and works to build her students’ self-confidence through solo and ensemble singing. Ms. Towner believes technique is the foundation of all singing and encourages her students to explore many styles of vocal music. She enjoys making music fun, meaningful and inspiring for her students.

Education

Bachelor of Music Education with a concentration in Voice from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ. She studied under Joseph Flummerfelt,
Allen Crowell, James Jordan, Frauke Haasemann, and Helen Kemp.

Teaching Experience

Ms. Towner has taught middle school and high school choir in public schools for 16 years where her choirs rated superior in many competitions. She has taught voice and beginning piano to students 7 – 84 years of age. Ms. Towner has also directed school, church, and community choirs of all ages in NJ, NH, FL, TN, and SC. One of her most fulfilling experiences is working with special need students and giving them an opportunity to share their talents with others.

Performance Experience

While in college Ms. Towner had the honor of being in Symphonic Choir which performed with the New York Philharmonic and Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Mazur, Ricardo Muti and Robert Shaw. Her opera chorus experience includes the Spoleto Festival in SC and Italy as well as 8 seasons with the Opera Festival of New Jersey. She has sung solo and ensemble oratorio work throughout her career as well as Broadway reviews in a dessert theater in NJ.
