NH Youth Symphony Orchestra Concert: Sunday, April 1, 2012

The Manchester Community Music School will host a Symphony Orchestra Concert on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 1 pm at the Music School, 2291 Elm Street, Manchester. The Orchestra will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Tchaikovsky’s Fatum, and Sibelius’ Finalandia.

The Music School has the largest Ensembles Program North of Boston. The Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1983 and has flourished ever since. Today, it is conducted by Mark Latham, AGSM Guildhall School, London; B.M. Philadelphia College of Performing Arts; M.M. Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music; D.M. A. orchestral conducting the University of Michigan. Each year students at Manchester Community Music School are eligible to participate in the annual NH Youth Ensemble Concerto Competition. One or more students are selected to perform their concerto with the New Hampshire Youth Symphony Orchestra in the Spring. This year’s winner is Salem High School sophomore Crystal Napoli. Sunday’s Concert will feature Crystal on Harp, performing Camille Saint-Saens Morceau de Concert, Op. 154.

Crystal is a member of the National American Harp Society, and has been studying the harp for 10 years with Marilinda Garcia. She played with an ensemble of four harpists at a five-year commemorative to the fall of the Old Man of the Mountain.  She has continued to play at many community service events like the grand opening of the new Wing to the Elliot Hospital’s  “Rivers Edge.” She has played in Pit Orchestra at both Salem and Windham high school for the plays Pippin and Phantom of the Opera.  Crystal also plays flute and tuba with the competitive marching band at Salem High School.  They will be performing at the Fiesta Bowl parade and field competition in Arizona this upcoming December.
