Music Therapy

Music Therapy

What is Music Therapy?

Christina and HudsonMusic Therapy is an established health profession in which a music therapist uses music and all of its attributes—tempo, pitch, timbre, volume, rhythm, etc. — to help clients meet nonmusical goals. These goal areas include, but are not limited to: physical/motor development, cognitive functioning, social-emotional awareness, and communicative skills.

Our Board-Certified Music Therapists assess the strengths and needs of each client, determine individualized, measurable goals, and utilize their clinical knowledge, musical skills, creativity, and compassion to develop specific therapeutic interventions to address these goals. Sessions may include:

  • Singing
  • Instrumental improvisation
  • Moving to music
  • Listening to and discussing music
  • Other music experiences that target individual and/or group treatment goals.

Music Therapy sessions are currently held at the Music School as well as in:

  • public schools
  • hospitals
  • assisted living facilities
  • adult day programs
  • other community settings

Through Music Therapy, clients’ abilities are strengthened and transferred to other areas of their lives.
