Jared Steer, percussion
Mr. Steer has a B.A. in performance from Plymouth State College where he studied with Tim Gilmore and Eric C. Hughes. Post grad studies have been with long time mentor Bob Gullotti, Jeff Ballard, Rakalam Bob Moses, Jerry Leake, Dave Dicenso, Steve Michaud and Roberto Vizcaino Guillot. He has taken master Classes with Matt Wilson, Horacio Hernandez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Jerome Dupree and Dave Mattacks.
He is currently pursuing a degree in Music Education at Plymouth State University.
Mr. Steer is a well-rounded performer who plays with a vast number of projects as a band member and freelance artist. He has also recorded on numerous albums with many of the region’s top artists. He has performed and or recorded with the likes of Shawn Monteiro (jazz vocalist), Randy Roos (guitar great), Steve Rucker (Bee Gees), James Montgomery (Blues Great), Buddy Cage (New Riders of the Purple Sage), Jerry Leake (percussion great), John Funkhouser (Boston Pianist, Berklee), Vince Welnick (Grateful Dead), Kimberly Dahme (Boston), Danny Wilde (The Rembrandts), Ernest Thompson (Film Great, Emmy Award Winner for “On Golden Pond”), Tony Sarno (Blood, Sweat and Tears), and many others. During his career, Jared has had the pleasure of playing a variety of venues around the country, ranging from the Hatch Shell in Boston, to the Lincoln Center and Symphony space in NYC, to live Sirius Radio performance in Washington DC. In addition to his busy performing schedule, Mr. Steer is a sought-after drum set/percussion instructor. Since 2001, he has maintained a full roster of private students at schools such as The Manchester Community Music School, New Hampton School, Inter-Lakes High School, Sant Bani School, Holderness Prep School, and his home studio in New Hampton. Past students have been accepted into NHMEA Jazz All State, NHMEA All State, The Lakes Region Jazz Festival and colleges such as Berklee College of Music, The New School and SUNY Purchase. Mr. Steer strives to provide his students with a solid education in the fundamentals of drumming while maintaining an atmosphere of fun.
