On Saturday March 9, the Music Therapy Department will present a seminar for parents/caregivers about Music Therapy and the services we offer here at the Music School and in the community.
This 1 1/2-2 hour presentation includes information about the profession of Music Therapy (education/training, Board Certification, our professional organization, etc.) and we also focus on answering the question….”What is Music Therapy?”
We use a power point presentation, discussion, and ‘hands on’ activities/demonstrations to explain “who” can benefit from Music Therapy, “what” Music Therapists do, “why” Music?, and “how’
Music Therapy can be effective in addressing ‘nonmusical’ goals. We discuss how these goals/objectives are developed and ‘tracked’ and we describe how we (can) work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Parents/caregivers who attend are encouraged to ask questions and take written materials we provide.
The following week, we follow up with those who have attended and, if they are interested, we arrange for an initial intake meeting to talk more specifically about their family member’s needs.
